Yard Machines 31A-240-800
Date Published: 10/2/07
The Yard Machines 31A-240-800 is a lightweight, entry-level snow blower that's appropriate for fairly light snowfall.
Although Yard Machines recommends this model for snows up to 6 inches in depth, we feel it's important to be more specific about the type of snow that this machine can handle. Six inches of light, powdery snow is far different from 6 inches of heavy, wet, slushy snow.
We recommend this machine for a maximum of 6 inches of light, powdery snow; anything more than that is too much for the 31A-240-800 to handle. Heavy, wet snow can be a big challenge for this machine; if it starts to clog on slushy snow, you should stop using it in order to avoid damage.
Typical of the least expensive single-stage snow blowers, the Yard Machines 31A-240-800 is difficult and expensive to repair if you experience a problem.
This model is equipped with a pull start and features a small 3.5-hp, 2-cycle Tecumseh engine that requires mixing gas and oil before fueling.
The Yard Machines 31A-240-800 is an inexpensive, if temperamental solution to snow removal. In our opinion, if you have a bit more money to spend, you should opt for a sturdier machine, unless all you anticipate is a relatively small amount of light, fluffy snow.
The 31A-240-800 is available at Wal-Mart. You can also find it at Tractor Supply Company as model number 31A-240-752 and at Menard's as Huskee model number 31A-240-731.
