Yamaha YST-SW315
Date Published: 6/7/04
Yamaha's YST-SW315 is a very solid performer, with a sound that is full and strong, yet very accurate. The YST-SW315 features a substantial 270-watt amplifier powering a ten-inch driver, and it can easily be adjusted for movie or music playback. The amplifier has a continuously variable crossover filter to let you use the subwoofer only for the necessary frequencies, and a phase switch makes sure that the signal is in phase with the rest of your speakers. Unlike many subwoofers, the YST-SW315 is magnetically shielded, letting it be placed close to a television monitor.
The ten-inch long-throw driver is mounted in a downward firing configuration that provides an efficient use of power. There is a volume control as well, which is much more convenient than searching through menus on your A/V receiver to lower or raise the subwoofer level.
The YST-SW315 has an automatic on/off mode, turning the unit on when audio is detected and turning it off after a certain period of time with no signal. There are line-level and speaker-level inputs. This is a solid subwoofer, with features that make it easy to incorporate it into the rest of your sound system.
