Yamaha YST-SW215 subwoofer

If you have serviceable bookshelf or home theater speakers that need some help in the low end, check out the Yamaha YST-SW215 subwoofer. This isn't the biggest or most powerful sub around, but it does produce a musical, tight sound that can add the bass support your system has been missing.
The YST-SW215 uses a 150-watt amplifier to power an 8-inch down-firing driver. The frequency response is listed as 30Hz to 200Hz, but that is +/-24dB, so the curve is actually narrower. A variable crossover lets the YST-SW215 be optimized with the rest of a speaker system, and there is also a low-pass filter variable from 50Hz to 150Hz. It has speaker- and line-level inputs, an independent level control, phase switch, and an automatic on/off feature. The YST-SW215 is magnetically shielded, so it can be placed near a television monitor without causing picture distortion.
The Yamaha YST-SW215 is not the subwoofer to get for floor-pounding explosions or to serve as the foundation of a full-size home theater system. However, it is perfect for smaller systems that need a little help bringing the low end to life.
