Yamaha NS-525F
Date Published: 5/19/08Built with a beautiful real wood finish and featuring solid cabinet construction, the Yamaha NS-525F's offer accurate music reproduction and eye-catching looks. There are a plethora of speaker companies around these days, but few have been in the business as long as Yamaha. One thing Yamaha knows how do to is build a beautiful-looking no nonsense loudspeaker and offer it at a fair price, and the NS-525Fs are exactly that.
The speakers are a 3-way bass reflex design utilizing a 6-1/2-inch advanced PMD cone (Polymer Injected Mica Diaphragm, for those who care) with aluminum die-cast baskets for the bass and midrange drivers, along with a 1-1/8 inch aluminum dome tweeter with DC diaphragms. The speakers are finished with a real wood veneer, have removable grills, and come with outriggers for added stability (with options for spiking the feet into carpet). These are a very attractive looking pair of speakers. The cabinets have a very solid feel, and with a weight of 50.1 lbs, you may need some help carrying them into the house. Looking at the back of the speakers also reveals heavy duty gold plated, brass extruded terminals. These are quality speakers through-and-through.
Not only do the Yamaha NS-525F's look gorgeous, they sound that way. Highs were clear, distinct and never grating or subdued. Little details could easily be discerned. At no time did we feel the tweeters were struggling to keep up even at louder volume levels. The only trace of sibilance we could hear seemed to be only what was in the source material. Midrange also sounded accurate and the several female vocal tracks we played came alive with these speakers. Bass was very good and, while the low-end was not earth shaking, it was very tight and accurate. One only needs add a decent sub to get the ground-shaking lows demanded of some music and movie soundtracks. Overall these are extremely accurate sounding speakers that will suit most music very well and should please even the most exacting listeners.
While not the least expensive of Yamaha's speakers, the NS-525F's do offer incredibly detailed and accurate music reproduction. If that is your goal, then these are the speakers for you. One could spend considerably more money and not get any better perfromance. The Yamaha NS-525F's are a music lover's speaker.
