The Yamaha CDR-HD1500 is quite an amazing machine that puts just about all other CD recorders to shame, if you can afford the rather high price tag. In this case, however, the old adage is certainly true: you get what you pay for. The CDR-HD1500's CD recording capabilities are quite impressive, burning at 8X normal speed when recording to CD-R and 4X to CD-RW. However, how you select the music to record is what makes the CDR-HD1500 such a stellar machine.

While most recorders require another CD player (or a second integrated CD tray) as a source, the CDR-HD1500 has a built-in 200GB hard drive. This is more than three times larger than the largest iPod currently available, so it enables you to store all your music in its original format(s), and no data compression is required. The hard drive provides instantaneous access to an entire music library, and when burning a disc, you can simply select a playlist from anything stored on the hard drive.

The CDR-HD1500 sports features such as high-speed ripping, a jog dial, an on-screen display for CD Text information, digital and analog recording, and title input from a PC via the RS-232C interface. There are optical and coaxial digital inputs and outputs, along with analog ins and outs. For CD recording and so much more, the Yamaha CDR-HD1500 is a fabulous addition to any setup.
