Yamaha CDC-585

Date Published: 1/8/08

Yamaha has a large selection of carousel-styled CD changers, so finding one to suit your needs is merely a matter of determining what features are important to you--they all sound and perform magnificently. The CDC-585 is in the middle of the line. The CDC-585 can change four discs while the fifth one plays, and it can handle CD-R or CD-RW--an increasingly important feature since many people are burning their own compilations, and many smaller bands are releasing their music on recordable CDs that they can make themselves.

The CDC-585 has a 40-track programmable memory that can play from any of the discs that are loaded, as well as an intro scan. It reads and displays CD Text information from Text-encoded discs. One feature that is always welcome is a numeric keypad, in this case only on the remote, which allows you to directly enter and access a track number--it does have direct access to the discs via the front panel.

Another cool feature is the peak search that finds the loudest passage on a disc so that you can properly set a recording level or listening level. While the CDC-585 has many features that make it fun to use, the ultimate feature is how good it sounds--it is in the Natural Sound line of products from Yamaha, and it lives up to the name.
