Worx WG150 18-volt line trimmer

Date Published: 4/23/07

Worx tools are well-though-out, incredibly user-friendly pieces of equipment, and that's true for the ultra-versatile WG150 18-volt line trimmer, as well. There's not much to quibble about here: This nicely put-together cordless unit earns the Consumer Guide Best Buy designation.

The ergonomic, customizable design is what really helps this model stand apart from other less-than-$100 cordless trimmers. Several elements are adjustable, so you can tweak the tool to accommodate your size and posture, rather than bending or straining to accommodate the trimmer. The telescoping shaft slides up to 8 inches with the twist of a ring, so it's an especially good choice if you split trimming duties between different-sized people, and the rotating handle uses a nifty release that can be operated with one hand. Its most unique feature, though, is the adjustable cutting head, which can be tilted up to 90 degrees to reach under decks, behind landscaping elements or to comfortably trim on slopes or uneven yards.

The trimmer can be converted into an edger by turning the handle and the head. Unlike some trimmer/edger combination units, the Worx WG150 18-volt line trimmer uses two good-sized and sturdy wheels to guide the tool when it's in edger mode.

It's got plenty of power, too. The 18-volt system uses an easy-to-remove battery that can be charged in less than an hour, a phenomenally speedy recharge rate. The Worx WG150 18-volt line trimmer is durable, lightweight -- less than 7 pounds -- and uses a neat automatic line feed so you don't have to worry about bumping the head on the ground to release more string when it runs out. What's not to like? If we could improve this tool, we'd increase the 10-inch cutting width and add some more padding on the adjustable handle. It's so easy to use, though, you won't want to let this baby go.

The Worx WG150 18-volt line trimmer is covered by a 2-year warranty.
