Whirlpool Top-Load Stacked Washer/Dryer/LTE5243D
Date Published: 4/30/07
Fairly expensive for a laundry pair, the Whirlpool Stacked Washer/Dryer LTE5243D
has a limited capacity and makes sense only if you're really cramped for space. Commonly placed in a small space such as a closet, kitchen or bath, this slender unit fits where full-size units could never go.
Offering a capacity of just 1.5 cubic feet, the LTE5243D is far from roomy, but typical for this category of machine. Those familiar with full-size equipment will find this washer and dryer pair to be on the small side. Although workable for 1-2 people, those relying on LTE5243D for doing the regular weekly wash should be prepared to run a number of additional loads. Matching the output of machines at the local Laundromat will require some additional running time for these stacked Whirlpool units. The benefit, however, is that these loads can be run right from the comfort of your own home.
Although small in capacity, this washer has features to rival the full-size models. Five automatic cycles make it easy to wash just about anything you may own with the exception of comforters and sleeping bags. Four temperature combinations provide as many options as a typical full-size washer. Three water levels allow you to come relatively close to matching water usage to the size of your load. Remembering to adjust these levels will save money, energy and natural resources. When it comes to cleaning, the LTE5243D is typical of the stacked category. The agitation level is moderate. Cycles start out with stronger agitation at the beginning and then step down for a gentler finish. Since cycles are fairly gentle, stain pretreatment is recommended for best cleaning.
When it comes time to dry your small load, the LTE5243D is well equipped. It offers a technologically advanced temperature control system. This system allows you to set cycles for less or more dry and leave to the machine to shut off the dryer at the desired level of dryness. The benefit of such a system is less over-drying and less damage to fabrics from overly high heat.
Four temperature selections give you the ability to control the level of heat your garments are exposed to, while five varying cycles provide optimal conditions for everything from regular loads to permanent press.
When installing the LTE5243D, make sure you have height clearance of 71-3/4 inches, access to a 30-amp 120/240-volt power outlet and a water hookup.
Appropriate for space-challenged homes such as apartments, condos and mobile homes, the Whirlpool LTE5243D will cost you more for less, while it solves the dilemma of how get the laundry done.
