Whirlpool MT4110SP microwave oven

Date Published: 7/6/07

Whirlpool's MT4110SP microwave oven commands a fairly high price for an oven with rather limited features. In this price range, plenty of microwave ovens offer a sensor, but this Whirlpool model does not. While the M4110SP performs satisfactorily using manual settings, we just expect a bit more for a product in this price range.

Although some simple convenience programs are offered on the MT4110SP, more accurate reheating and cooking would be achieved if a sensor were included. On the other hand, the staged cooking of this model equips it with a better-than-average defrost system. Using the automated defrost program will allow you to defrost quickly, while limiting the undesirable pre-cooking of food edges that commonly occurs in microwave ovens.

The MT4110SP comes equipped with a recessed turntable, which allows foods to be heated even if they are placed in dishes that are too large for the turntable. This feature can be particularly helpful if you are heating a casserole or lasagna in a large rectangular dish.

We also like the added feature of a 30-second Jet Start. This control quickly and easily sets the oven for a 30 second block of cooking time on high. As an alternative, this setting can be used to add time in 30-second intervals to cooking already in progress, without even opening the oven door. For example, if the water for your tea has not yet come to a boil, you can simply touch the Jet-Start key and easily add 30 seconds to the program in progress without stopping the oven.

The Whirlpool MT4110SP comes in black or white and offers a child lockout system. A warm and hold feature is also included, but we find its usefulness to be rather limited. Food quality stays better if foods are reheated as little as possible, not repeatedly for long periods of time.

Choose the MT4110SP microwave oven from Whirlpool if you're unlikely to use the convenience programs for cooking and reheating, and if a good-performing defrost program is your top priority.

Pros: Excellent defrost program, handy 30 second Jet-Start feature
Cons: Sensor is not included but is expected in this price range
