Whirlpool GT4175S microwave oven
Date Published: 7/6/07
The full-size Whirlpool GT4175S microwave oven is a phenomenal value. Packed with the best features and offered a price that knocks much of the competition dead, this product should prove to be a winner.
Versatile enough to be a built-in unit, this microwave oven can be purchased with a trim kit for use with either a 27- or 30-inch wall oven. As built-in products become more popular, many manufacturers are forcing consumers into purchasing very high-priced products for this application. Not so with the GT4175S. Whirlpool has maintained a fair and competitive price, while offering a superb product in all the trendiest colors. Choose white, biscuit, black or stainless steel to coordinate with the other appliances in your kitchen.
The features on this microwave are as attractive as the price and versatility. Sensors are included for both reheating and cooking foods from a raw state. By far the best type of automated program, the sensor adds very little to the price of the oven, but ensures accurate cooking results.
Stage microwave cooking is included on the GT 4175S. This feature allows you to program in a sequence of times and varying power levels. The availability of this feature makes the oven more versatile and particularly important it improves the performance of the automated defrost system. You can stage your own cooking or rely on the oven's automated defrost program to do it for you.
This oven, with 1.7 cubic feet of interior capacity, is not quite as large as some units in this category. It does, however, offer 1200 watts of cooking power -- the same amount of power offered in the largest of home-use microwave ovens.
One of the best and most attractively priced options for a built-in unit, Whirlpool's GT4175S gets a double thumbs-up from us.
Pros: Excellent value, sensor reheat and cook, four colors, reasonably priced trim kits in two sizes
Cons: A bit smaller interior than some full-size units
