Whirlpool GC3SHEXN built-in refrigerator

Date Published: 6/8/06

The Whirlpool GC3SHEXN is a great-looking and well-featured side-by-side counter-depth refrigerator that offers the built-in look without the super-high price tag of most built-in models.

It's about the height of a standard refrigerator, which is a nice surprise for a shallow-depth fridge with a good-sized 23-cubic-foot capacity. It's economical to run, using just 557 kWh of energy per year, costing you about $46 annually to run.

This model has many nifty and unique features. First, there are two extra-wide adjustable slide-out glass shelves with a spillsaver feature. These shelves can hold up to 12 ounces of spilled liquids. There is one clear-front humidity-controlled crisper and an additional crisper that doubles as a meat keeper, plus a large, clear snack drawer. The refrigerator controls, located in the top of the main compartment, display fridge and freezer temperature and include an alarm that signals if the door is left open.

The door has some great features. There are three extra-tall, clear gallon-size door bins and a bin with a great handle that allows you to remove it and carry condiments or drinks directly from the fridge to the table. All bins have a non-slip bottom layer so that your jelly jars don't rattle in the bins when you open and close the door.

The door also has a clear dairy keeper and a built-in can rack. A nice feature is the door's special cooling system that automatically vents chilled air from the freezer compartment to the door section of the fridge, keeping milk, juices, and other items stored on the door well cooled.

The freezer of Whirlpool's GC3SHEXN is exceptionally well laid out. The standard through-the-door ice maker--which works through an integral filter--stores ice in a removable bucket on the door, so there's more room for frozen foods in the main compartment.

The freezer has two shelves and two fully extendable wire baskets for easy access to even the foods way in back of the unit. The freezer door has a fixed shelf and two tilt-out wire bins. The Whirlpool GC3SHEXN built-in refrigerator comes in white, biscuit, black, or stainless steel.

The Whirlpool GC3SHEXN has 14 cubic feet of space in the main compartment and 9 cubic feet of freezer space, plenty of room to hold a medium-size family's fresh and frozen groceries.
