We actually gasped with delight the first time we opened the doors of the Whirlpool EV209NBTQ upright freezer because we were so impressed with the two-door/one-compartment design.

The two-door design of the EV209NBTQ makes a lot of sense. This configuration allows you to open a single door to store and retrieve the items you want, and opening a single, smaller door keeps in more of the freezer's cold air. Because the freezer has a single compartment instead of two separate freezer compartments, cold air is able to flow more easily and more efficiently. Most of all, however, the EV209NBTQ has the benefits of an upright freezer, with a lot of shelf space and plenty of door storage, plus a bottom compartment that can hold lots of bulky, heavy items.

The EV209NBTQ has a total of 19.6 cubic feet of space, which is likely enough room for all the extra frozen goods that your home's main kitchen refrigerator can't handle. It's very energy-efficient, using just 671kWh of energy each year; this requires you to pay only about $70 in electricity annually to run it.

The inside of the EV209NBTQ is very nicely designed. For starters, its door shelves are arranged in two columns for maximum storage flexibility. Each side has two half-width door shelves that are adjustable for height, as well as one full-width shelf on the bottom. Behind the top door of the main compartment are three full-width adjustable white wire shelves. At the bottom of the top portion of the fridge are two removable shallow white wire baskets that hold small items as they divide the top and bottom compartments of this freezer.

Behind the bottom door of the EV209NBTQ is a wonderful plastic bin that slides out on metal tracks. This bin slides out smoothly, even when loaded with very heavy items like frozen turkeys, and is divided vertically into two sections. It holds a portable ice bucket the can hold up to 12 pounds of ice. An icemaker kit is optional on this model. On the door is a full-width white wire gate, which is great for holding a very large pizza box, although deeper items will not fit. The EV209NBTQ also has a door alarm to signal when the door has been left open.
