Whirlpool's EV201NZR upright freezer is a large automatic defrost model that has some useful features and is surprisingly energy-efficient for this type of appliance.

With a total capacity of 20.1 cubic feet, the EV201NZR is a spacious unit. This model can hold a variety of large and small items in its baskets and shelving. It is also very bright inside, so you'll have no trouble storing and retrieving your frozen foods. The styling is plain but attractive enough to use in a kitchen or rec room; you don't need to hide it in a garage or basement.

On the door of the EV201NZR are six fixed full-width shelves that are sturdy, although not terribly deep. Within the main freezer compartment are four full-width adjustable, removable white wire shelves. This model also has one bottom freezer basket, which allow you to store bulky items (like frozen turkeys) or smaller items (like bags of frozen vegetables). The basket slides out easily, even when loaded to the top with frozen foods.

The temperature controls for the EV201NZR are located in the inside top right corner. These dial-type controls are very easy to use.

A very welcome feature of the EV201NZR is its fast-freeze setting, which makes the freezer run continuously until the interior temperature is at the level you have specified. This feature is especially helpful when you're loading items you've purchased that may not be as cold as you'd like them to be.

Additional features include a power indicator light and a temperature alarm that will sound if the internal freezer temperature rises to a certain level. An automatic icemaker is not included, although you can choose to add one as an option, for an additional fee.
