VIZIO RP56 56-inch DLP TV
Date Published: 10/26/07
The VIZIO RP56 is a 56-inch widescreen TV that employs digital light processing (DLP) to achieve a sharp, lively picture in a relatively slim cabinet. The cabinet has a distinctive design, with a silver-framed screen resting on a narrower silver and black base.
The native 1,280X720 resolution is applied to all inputs, including 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1,080i (a separate HD receiver is required for high-definition programming). The 1,000:1 contrast ratio ensures that blacks and whites are intense and rich, and the brightness of the screen stands up to all sorts of light conditions. Movies are adapted to the screen with 3:2 pulldown, which eliminates motion artifacts and creates smooth action. Standard-definition video content is enhanced with a motion-adaptive de-interlacer that smooth out the edges and produces very sharp, natural-looking images. The lamp on this set will last 6,000 hours, and the display can produce up to 16.7 million colors for a lifelike picture.
The stereo system relies on two 15-watt stereo speakers that are built into the base, and users can listen with the simulated surround sound effect activated for the illusion of even more speakers. Twin tuners make it possible to watch two programs at once in picture-out-of-picture format or with a picture-in-picture window.
The RP56 is a multimedia monitor, featuring inputs for every type of device, including a home computer. Computer content can be displayed at 640X480, 800X600, or 1,024X768 when connected via the DVI or VGA input. The side panel provides access to an audio/video input, S-video input, PC input with audio, and, in an unusually generous move, two stereo headphone jacks to serve both the main screen and the PIP window. The rear panel adds even more connectability, with an RF input, two audio/video inputs, two S-video inputs, two component video inputs, a DVI input, a PC input, and a stereo mini jack. A universal remote control completes the package.
