Uniden EZI996 900 MHz Extended Range Cordless Telephone
Date Published: 3/22/06
This phone is designed with a less gadget-conscious market in mind. Therefore, features are kept to a minimum. The first features one will notice are the large backlit buttons and sizeable incoming call lights on both the handset's antenna and on the base station. These help visually and aurally impaired consumers to spot when a call is being received. Meanwhile, the ringer has a separate volume control is hearing aid compatible. Transmissions are sent via analog 900Mhz frequencies, which provide acceptable range and do not interfere with nearby Wi-Fi networks. A locator button is included on the base station to find the handset when it is misplaced. 10 speed-dial locations and a 30-entry caller ID log are also included. The one downside of the product is that the battery is NiCd, making it subject to memory effect; users have to remember to drain the battery before returning it to the charging cradle. Otherwise, this is a solid product for a specific niche.
