Toshiba SD-P1850 portable DVD player

Date Published: 1/9/08

Toshiba's SD-P1850 portable DVD player offers some advanced features for a very reasonable price. This DivX-compatible portable enables you to play CD-R/RW holding DivX, AVI or MPEG4 files downloaded from the internet. For digital photography enthusiasts, the SD-P1850 also features an integrated four-in-one media card slot that accepts SD, Memory Stick, xD and MMC memory card formats.

The compatibility of this portable DVD player doesn't stop there. The SD-P1850 can play WMA and MP3 digital audio files burned to disc, as well as DVD-R and VCD. The 8-inch widescreen TFT LCD allows you to watch feature films in their native 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, just as you would in a movie theater.

The SD-P1850 features twin headphone jacks so two people can enjoy a movie while sitting side-by-side in a car or on a plane, and 3-D virtual surround sound simulates five-channel audio over either the headphones or the built-in stereo speakers. Like many portable DVD players, however, the audio quality from the speakers lacks sufficient volume to overcome much background noise.

The included rechargeable battery offers a life span of about 3.5 hours between charges. The SD-P1850 also comes with a car power outlet adapter for use on the road. With its S-video output, the SD-P1850 can double as a home DVD player, and its optical digital audio output allows you to route Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound signals to a compatible home theater receiver. The player even comes with a basic remote control.

Whether watching movies, listening to music, viewing video from the internet or looking at digital photos, the SD-P1850 delivers excellent video performance. Considering its MSRP of $200, the SD-P1850 represents a great value.
