Toshiba D-VR3 DVD recorder

Date Published: 1/9/08

The Toshiba D-VR3 takes a DVD recorder, progressive scan DVD player, and hi-fi VCR and combines them all into one convenient unit that is no larger than many standard DVD players. The D-VR3 makes quality recordings in the DVD-RAM/R/RW formats, as well as to standard VHS tapes. This unit is ideal for transferring all those home movies from VHS or S-VHS to DVD, and it can also make direct transfers from a DV camcorder.

The VCR side of the unit offers VCR Plus+ for a simple way to record favorite TV shows. The DVD recorder offers a cable-compatible NTSC tuner and a Time Slip feature that allows the viewing of the start of a recorded show while the rest is still being recorded. As a DVD player, the D-VR3's progressive scan output provides excellent picture quality when hooked up to a digital TV, and the unit is compatible with analog sets as well.

The D-VR3 has a standard array of inputs and outputs, including coaxial and optical digital audio outputs for surround sound passthrough to an A/V receiver, a front-panel FireWire (IEEE 1394) input, and a ColorStream Pro (480p) component video output. Despite the slew of features and formats that this unit accommodates, set-up and operation are quick and easy.
