Toshiba 26HF66 26-inch HDTV
Date Published: 10/26/07
With an integrated digital tuner and a wide-format flat picture tube, Toshiba's 26-inch 26HF66 is ready for HD programming. This silver TV has a relatively small footprint, thanks in part to stereo speakers that are built into the area below the screen. The NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuner can potentially eliminate the need for extra set-top decoder boxes, as it is capable of displaying standard and high-definition signals as well as digital cable content (although you should check with your cable provider to ensure QAM compatibility).
The 26HF66 displays a crisp and highly detailed picture, and all types of signals are converted to 1,080i or 540p. The stereo speakers produce a total of 10 watts of audio output, and simulated surround sound is among the available audio options. Convenience features include on/off and sleep timers, memory for favorite channels and a game timer.
The input selection is impressive for a relatively small TV. In addition to a set of front-panel inputs, the 26HF66's rear panel includes two more composite video/S-video inputs, two HD component video inputs and an HDMI digital-to-digital input. The universal remote control can manage up to four separate associated devices, with direct access for each.
For a 26-inch TV, Toshiba's 26HF66 has an impressive feature list and competent performance.
Pros: HD tuner, good input selection, crisp picture
Cons: Bulky cabinet
