Toro Titan Z Z4800 Model 74812 zero-turn mower
Date Published: 4/11/08
The first thing you will notice about the Toro Titan Z Z4800 Model 74812 zero-turn mower is how smoothly the entire machine runs. From the easy-to-use ignition to the fluidity of the hydraulically dampened control levers, this mower is a pleasure to operate. The foot-controlled cutting deck adjustment is tremendously smooth, adapting easily when cutting uneven terrain or along hillsides. The 48-inch deck's flotation is impressive on all topography and cuts are consistent on all cut-height settings (from 1.5 to 4.5 inches). This machine's excellent handling and smooth transitions out of tight-angle turns are quite impressive, and the power provided by the strong 22-hp Briggs & Stratton engine allows the 74812 to hum along at up to 7 mph and climb hills with ease. This machine's zero-angle turns are among the smoothest you'll find, and the triple blades neatly clip the entire diameter under the cutting deck.
This unit's steel frame provides a stable ride without causing you to feel that you are putting too much strain on the chassis. We also find that the suspension's ability to manage bumpy terrain is nearly comparable to those of higher-end commercial mowers. The hydraulic control levers stay steady and responsive over uneven ground, which allows you to mow practically anywhere without fighting the steering. Adding to this machine's comfort is its triple-spring-loaded seat, which features an 18-inch back and standard armrests that seem immune to this mower's natural vibrations. The 4-gallon fuel tank is the perfect size for normal residential use, as it allows you to mow several acres on a single tank.
Toro's optional mulching attachment does a great job reducing debris, though we find the initial cut to be cleaner and smaller than those produced by most other mowers, anyway. The bagging attachment is a bit small for a mower with a 48-inch cutting deck, but it does a decent job cleaning up clippings. Other optional attachments include lights, a hitch for light-duty attachments and a sunshade. The standard-issue toolbox that is built into the mower is a nice touch.
Overall, the Toro Titan Z Z4800 Model 74812 performs very well in residential settings and has enough power and stability to do a good job in light-duty commercial use.
