Toro CCR 2450 GTS
Date Published: 10/1/07
The Toro CCR 2450 GTS is a small, single-stage snow blower with a fairly wide clearing path of 20 inches. It is powered by Toro's own R Tek 2-cycle engine.
We like the reliability of this model and can appreciate the wide path it clears for a single-stage machine. We also like the ease with which it can be stored in a crowded garage.
On the other hand, we find mixing gas and oil to be a messy inconvenience that we could do without, especially when we can purchase a two-stage snow blower with a 4-cycle engine for about the same price.
The Toro CCR 2450 GTS relies on the Toro Power Propel drive system; as the heavy-duty rotor paddles contact the ground, the machine pushes forward.
This snow blower can process up to 1700 pounds of snow per minute and throws snow up to about 30 feet. The intake measures 13.5 inches, which is sufficient for snow up to about 10 inches in depth. For those expecting deeper snow than this, especially the heavy and wet kind, a larger machine is worth consideration.
For sheer ease of operation, we like the electric start feature. The budget-conscious should consider purchasing it without this optional feature, as long as you have the strength to pull the recoil.
This snow blower is a good choice for those with limited storage space but lacks the convenience of a reverse gear. The Toro CCR 2450 CTS looks small and easy to use, but it really requires more strength to operate and is less convenient than a similarly priced two-stage model.
Pros: Small size stores easily, reliable, wide clearing path for its size
Cons: Lacks reverse, heavy for a one-stage machine, priced similarly to entry-level two-stage model, requires mixing of gas and oil
