Toro 20053 Gasoline-Powered Push Mower
Date Published: 2/27/08
When it comes to superior cutting performance and mulching, we recommend the Toro 20053 gasoline-powered push mower. The Super Recycler cutting system features a high-efficiency convex blade that cuts quickly and cleanly, mowing green grass to perfection. An accelerator lifts up the grass under the 21-inch deck, and then kickers force them back into the blade, chopping and re-chopping until they vanish back on the lawn as a fine mulch that leaves grass standing straight. This 3-in-1 mower is set to mulch or side-discharge right out of the box, though the easy-on-and-off rear bag attachment is an optional feature. However, we found the Super Recycler cutting system to be so effective that you may decide to forego bagging your clippings altogether. If you plan to use some of your grass clippings as mulch for the garden or green waste for your compost pile, you can still achieve that goal with the optional rear bag.
The Super Recycler 20053 is designed with durability and performance in mind, relying on its powerful 6.5-horsepower Briggs & Stratton GTS (Guaranteed-to-Start) engine, with an unbeatable guarantee on all Super Recycler mowers that your mower will start on the first or second pull for five years or Toro will fix it for free. Also unbeatable is Toro's five year warranty, which covers not just the engine and deck but the whole mower. Simply put, if anything goes wrong under normal use and maintenance for the first five years, it's another free fix by Toro. The Toro SuperCare Program includes several added perks upon registration, such as free annual blade sharpening for five years (though the customer must remove the blades and bring them to their local Toro dealer for sharpening).
The "QuickWash" Wash Out Port is a newly added feature that can actually improve cutting performance when you mow. Grass clippings caught on the underside of the deck often build-up into a caked-on layer that affects the cutting performance of a mower. The wash out port is integrated into the cutting deck so all you need to do is attach a garden hose to the port and turn on the hose. The combination of water pressure and the whirling blade is quite effective in removing the majority of grass clippings on the underside of the deck.
Even the little amenities have been addressed, such as a recoil starter with the pull cord set high for easy reach. This mower also features seven mowing height adjustments ranging from 1-1/4 to 4 1/4 inches -- a range that easily accommodates any grass type or mowing needs. And the newly improved adjustment levers make adjusting each wheel easier than ever.
For superior cutting performance in a quality mower, the Toro 20053 gasoline-powered push mower is one of the best we've seen.
