TomTom's GO 700 navigation system prides itself on being simple and fun to use, even for newcomers to in-car navigation. While not a household name in the navigation field, TomTom has been around quite a while, as the Palm Pilot audience can attest.

The GO 700 holds all of its mapping data on an internal 2.5GB hard drive, and it provides complete door-to-door navigation with voice guidance. Trips can be planned with addresses, points of interest or waypoints, and users can select shortest or quickest routes. The GO 700 utilizes assisted satellite navigation, which enhances the normal signal from 12 GPS satellites so it can navigate even under dense foliage or in tunnels.

The GO 700 system is completely self-contained, so it can be easily transported, making it an ideal system to take along while traveling. The 3-1/2-inch touchscreen is a great interface for this easy-to-operate system. The GO 700's navigation system also contains Bluetooth, so a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone can be used directly from the touchscreen, and the audio is transmitted for complete hands-free communication.

Some navigation systems get you where you need to go but are so complex that you need to keep the user's manual handy at all times. The TomTom GO 700 is a different kind of device, combining accurate navigation with simple-to-use (but by no means basic) controls.
