The Toastmaster 10-Cup Retro Coffee Maker TMCMRET is an affordable machine that offers a hint of nostalgia.

The unit is styled in white with silver accents. The compact rounded design with edges and radio-style control give this machine the look of yesteryear; however, its functions are thoroughly modern.

The radio-controlled dial is actually an Aroma Selector, which lets you choose lighter or stronger coffee. The Aroma Selector regulates the brewing process and slows down the flow of water to provide a slightly stronger flavor. We noticed a subtle difference between the medium and light settings; however, the coffee was noticeably stronger when set on strong. To further affect coffee flavor, adjust the amount of grounds you add to the filter basket.

The Toastmaster Retro Coffee Maker comes with a 10-cup glass carafe with stay-cool handle and flip-back lid; a removable cone-shaped filter basket; a rear water reservoir with easy-view indicators on either side; and a non-stick warming plate. A single On/Off button starts the brew cycle. The button will remain in the "on" position until you turn it off. A handy power light on the front of the unit reminds you that the machine is working.

We found the water reservoir easy to fill, from either the right or left side. The flip-open top lid provides access to both the reservoir and the filter basket.

For its price, the Toastmaster Retro Coffee Maker is a terrific buy. We also were impressed with the little extras, such as the swinging handle on the filter basket, which makes removal easier; the brew-pause feature, which lets you remove the carafe to pour a cup before the brew cycle has finished; and the easy-pour dripless carafe.
