AM/FM radios are fixtures in just about every house in America, but Tivoli Audio's Model Satellite has raised the bar by combining an AM/FM radio with Sirius Satellite Radio, all in an attractive tabletop unit. In addition to Sirius, this small radio is a fine traditional radio receiver, using the same components as Tivoli's popular Henry Kloss-designed Model One (and Two and Three) radios. The Model Satellite comes in a cherry-wood cabinet with taupe metallic faceplate and champagne-silvered knobs.

The true star of the system is the integrated Sirius receiver that will pull in Sirius' 120-plus channels of music, talk, comedy, sports, and even local traffic and weather. The Model Satellite has a large six-line display that shows channel and menu information, and you can tune to categories, channels, presets, and direct channel numbers. The radio will alert you when up to 20 specific songs and artists are playing on other channels. It should be noted that the Model Satellite contains only one top-mounted 3-inch speaker, so the audio is mono. However, you can connect a companion speaker (sold separately) for stereo playback.

The Model Satellite package includes an indoor/outdoor satellite antenna, and to receive Sirius signals, the antenna must have a direct view of the sky or be within range of a terrestrial repeater site. A wireless remote control is also included. The AM/FM radio operates as normal, but of course, Sirius requires a monthly subscription fee. In addition to regular AC power, the radio has a 12-volt DC input for portable use in cars and campers using a power adaptor (not included).
