T-Fal 12-Quart Stock Pot
Date Published: 3/12/07
The T-Fal 12-Quart Stock Pot has nonstick surfaces on both the interior and exterior for excellent food release and easy cleaning. The 12-quart stockpot isn't the largest in the T-Fal line, but it's an excellent size for handling a wide range of cooking tasks.
This stockpot is taller than it is wide, standing 13 inches tall with a 10.5-inch-diameter. It comes with a beautiful glass lid with stainless-steel rim and stay-cool black Phenolic plastic handle.
Two stainless-steel squared ring handles are riveted to either side of the pan for a permanent grip. The handles have comfortable soft-grip rubber sleeves on the end, which makes lifting easy and safe, since the rubberized grips stay cool to the touch.
The pan is sturdy yet not overly heavy, which is good news for anyone who has trouble lifting heavier objects. The pan is constructed from solid heavy-gauge aluminum, which is known for its excellent heat conductivity. The base of the pan has a series of grooved rings, which make contact with the stovetop and spread heat across the surface of the pan in a spiral pattern.
Except for the grooved rings on the base, the entire pan is coated with a durable nonstick finish. The pan's exterior has a rougher brushed finish, which is excellent for hiding fingerprints. The interior is a smooth, glossy surface. For optimal performance, the manufacturer recommends periodically seasoning the pan by heating it on low and rubbing a small amount of vegetable oil across the surface.
The T-Fal Stockpot heated quickly and maintained a steady simmer on a low heat setting. High heat is not necessary to reach boiling temperatures and should not be used with this pan. We loved the glass lid, which provides a clear view so you can keep an eye on the cooking progress without lifting the lid. The lid also has a small vent hole, which is great for letting excess steam escape, rather than building up too much pressure in the pan. The lid's rim is contoured to sit on the edge of the pan but also nests slightly inside the rim, so it stays steady and keeps flavor and moisture locked inside.
The T-Fal stockpot is oven safe up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit; however, its tall height may prevent it from fitting in some ovens.
