Sunshine Kids Radian65 Convertible Car Seat
Date Published: 2/21/07
The Sunshine Kids Radian65 Convertible Car Seat is a sturdy seat with an interesting twist: It folds flat. This makes it ideal for storage or for travel, particularly when transporting the car seat from airplane to taxi, etc. It is a rear-facing car seat for children weighing five to 33 pounds and a forward-facing car seat for children up to 65 pounds. It is FAA-approved and exceeds all Federal safety standards.
The Sunshine Kids Radian65 Convertible Car Seat folds flat and can fit under most airplane seats for storage, if needed. It is far easier to store in an airplane than to actually install and use. The installation process is difficult. The car seat comes with a carrying strap for transporting it while folded. Unfortunately, the Radian65 Convertible Car Seat is quite heavy and the strap digs into one's skin while carrying the car seat.
Using the Sunshine Kids Radian65 Convertible car Seat in a vehicle is considerably easier. It is simple to install and positions the child's center of gravity as low and as far back as possible on the vehicle seat for optimal restraint performance. The car seat has a low profile, so it is easier for a child to be lifted over the side -- or to crawl over the side, if able. The car seat's five-point harness is easy to use and the straps do not twist easily. It has a convenient LATCH system and an energy-absorbing EPS foam liner. The car seat itself is not as wide as some we've tested, which is a benefit for those who drive smaller vehicles. The car seat's narrow width also is necessary for airline use. Overall, we find this is a functional car seat with an interesting fold-up feature, but for its price (about $200), the Sunshine Kids Radian65 Convertible Car Seat doesn't live up to expectations.
