Stihl BG 55 gas blower
Date Published: 6/5/08
The Stihl BG 55 is an excellent two-cycle gas blower capable of clearing a large yard of lots of leaves, even wet ones, and other small debris, including pebbles. It offers the same high quality that consumers have come to associate with Stihl chain saws. The BG 55 is a handheld gas blower that has an adjustable-length nozzle and an on/off switch located at the top of the handle.
Even though it is rated at 140 miles per hour, the Stihl BG 55 power blower moves leaves with the best of them. We found it to be a breeze to start and use. At less than 10 pounds with a full tank of gas, the blower is light enough for most anyone to use. The blower cleared all leaves, even wet ones, from the driveway, shrub beds and stairs. It is rather noisy, at 69 decibels, but most gas models tend to be noisy. When converted to a blower-vacuum, the unit again performed admirably, sucking up leaves and debris easily and cleanly, thanks to its 417 cfm (cubic feet per minute) rating.
The optional vacuum kit converts the Stihl BG 55 from a blower to a vacuum. Another optional kit transforms the unit into a gutter cleaner. The translucent fuel tank makes it easy to monitor the level of fuel. The carburetor can easily be primed without flooding, and the air filter cover removes easily without tools for quick, simple cleaning or replacement of the filter. The unit sports a spark-arrestor muffler and a protected throttle trigger to prevent accidents.
The Stihl BG 55 blower outperforms many gas blowers in its price range and some that cost considerably more. It is an excellent product, backed by a reputable manufacturer, and it deserves serious consideration if you're in the market for a gas blower.
