The Sony STR-DE897 is a powerful audio/video receiver, both in terms of wattage and versatility. This seven-channel unit provides up to 110 watts per channel into seven channels, and it has an unpowered (pre-amp) subwoofer output. As one could guess from the seven channels, the STR-DE897 has decoding available for formats including Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES, and DTS Neo6, along with the usual 5.1 formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS, as well as Dolby Pro Logic II.

If users plan to only utilize a 5.1 setup, the additional outputs can power speakers in another location. There are two component video inputs, three analog audio inputs, a phono input, and four optical and two coaxial digital audio inputs.
