Sony has once again raised the bar for home theater speaker systems, this time with the SA-FT7ED package. The SA-FT7ED is part of Sony's Elevated Standard product line, well known for exceptional performance and quality (although the system name oddly lacks the ES suffix). This high-end speaker setup is designed to match other products in the ES line, both sonically and aesthetically.

This is a 5.1 system, with all speaker components designed to seamlessly match, and they indeed create a smooth sound throughout the soundstage. At 1-1/4 inches thick, the satellites are thin enough for wall mounting, and they can also be placed on the included tower and floor stands. The full-range satellites are designed to transparently convey the high-resolution sound from SACD and DVD-Audio, and surround sound movie tracks come through crystal clear.

Rounding out the SA-FT7ED is a subwoofer powered by a 250-watt amplifier. It provides a very musical and natural bass sound that perfectly complements the lower ranges of the main speakers.

The Sony SA-FT7ED system is not cheap, but this standout member of the ES family won't disappoint.
