The Sony PictureStation DPP-FP55 is a lightweight dye sublimation photo printer that produces top-notch photos at home or on the road. In fact, the DPP-FP55 rivals photo labs for price per-print and quality, and it easily beats them for convenience.

The DPP-FP55 is certainly compact when it's not in use, measuring roughly 5X7X2 inches and weighing just over two pounds. However, adding the paper tray effectively doubles the footprint, as the tray connects to and extends from the front of the printer.

The DPP-FP55 is so quick and easy to set up that you can take it almost anywhere and start printing within a matter of minutes. The only catch is that there is no option to add a battery, so you must have access to an electrical outlet.

A 2-inch LCD lets you preview and edit photos when printing from Memory Stick or SD memory cards. The supplied Picture Motion software can crop, rotate, eliminate red eye and adjust contrast before printing. If you connect the DPP-FP55 to a PictBridge-compatible digital camera, you can use the camera's LCD display to preview and select the photos you want to print. You can also use the DPP-FP55's USB port to connect to and print from a computer.

Each print takes from 63 to 71 seconds from start to finish, depending on whether you're printing from a memory card, digital camera or computer. The final step in the printing process is a laminate coating that protects your photos from fingerprints, moisture and fading due to exposure to light.

The Sony PictureStation DPP-FP55 is a very good dye sublimation photo printer that you can take and use almost anywhere, as long as you have access to an electrical outlet.
