Sony's LocationFree LF-X11 is a wireless LCD TV that, thanks to Wi-Fi, makes it possible watch TV, view DVD or surf the internet from just about anywhere. The 12-1/10-inch standard-format LCD screen is set into a silver frame. A dual-band MAT antenna is used to communicate with the compact base station, which can be located up to 100 feet away. In areas with a Wi-Fi network, you can access the base station over the internet.
Images are surprisingly good on the TFT LCD screen, and images on the 800X600-resolution screen are helped along by a 3-D digital comb filter. The LF-X11 is equipped with an NTSC tuner, and it is not HD-compatible.
Configuring the LF-X11 is remarkably simple using the Setup Wizard. The monitor has an Ethernet port, a USB port (for a keyboard), a video input mini jack and a headphone jack, while the base station offers an RF input, composite video and S-video inputs, an Ethernet port and an IR blaster.
A Memory Stick media slot provides access to digital photos, making it possible to import photos and share them while on the road. Stereo speakers deliver only 1.6 watts of audio output per channel, but that is fine for such a small screen. The LF-X11 has an on-screen universal remote control, so there's no need to worry about losing the remote. The battery life ranges from 100 minutes to 4 hours, depending on usage conditions.
