Sony LBT-ZX6 compact stereo system
Date Published: 3/14/06
The Sony LBT-ZX6 is an aggressive-looking system that covers the basic audio playback formats while providing excellent performance and sound quality. The system begins with a five-disc CD changer with play exchange, allowing new discs to be loaded without interrupting the current disc's playback. The LBT-ZX6 also has a dual-transport, full-logic cassette deck, as well as an AM/FM tuner with 20 FM and 10 AM station presets.
The heart of the LBT-ZX6 is a powerful amplifier delivering 280 watts into each stereo channel. The included three-way stereo speakers each have a 1-inch tweeter, a 6-3/4-inch midrange, and a 6-3/4-inch woofer, and the speaker components combine to produce strong and accurate playback. Useful system features include a five-band spectrum analyzer with color display, ten equalizer presets, an illuminated center volume control, and a pair of microphone inputs with separate volume control for Karaoke-like fun. The LBT-ZX6 also has front-panel composite video inputs for connecting a video game console, as well as an assortment of rear-panel audio connections and a composite video output. A remote control is included in the package.
In many ways, the Sony LBT-ZX6 is an old-school minisystem that focuses on power and speaker quality. The relatively muscular amplifier and large speakers produce a loud soundfield with good bass and a smooth upper frequency response. It is nice to see that in a market rapidly filling with systems that boast flashy options to the detriment of audio quality, Sony and its LBT-ZX6 focus on the fundamentals: strong and clear sound.
