The KDL-32S2000 is a 32-inch LCD TV with a built-in high-definition (ATSC) tuner, PC compatibility and conservative yet elegant styling. This midsize member of Sony's BRAVIA S-Series features a wide-format display placed in a silver cabinet, and it includes top-mounted button controls, side composite video and S-video inputs and a detachable stand.

An integrated digital video processor and a 3-D digital comb filter work to create a crisp, detailed picture on the screen, which has a native resolution of 1,366X768. The viewing angle is an excellent 178 degrees both vertically and horizontally, so you can watch this LCD set from anywhere in the room. The contrast is sharp at 1,300:1, and the brightness of the screen adjusts automatically to the ambient light in the room. Four widescreen picture formats are available, offering a choice of wide zoom, zoom, normal and full viewing modes.

The internal audio system has a pair of stereo speakers rated at 10 watts of output per channel. Three audio presets are available, along with simulated surround sound and simulated stereo for mono programs. The convenience feature list is standard for the S-Series, and it includes an adjustable sleep timer, a choice of three picture presets, a full-screen picture freeze, memory for up to 16 favorite channels and input and channel labeling.

To play computer games and surf the internet on the big screen, the KDL-32S2000 includes a 15-pin D-sub input with stereo mini-plug for audio. Other connectivity options include an RF input for an antenna or cable source, two composite video inputs (in addition to the one on the side panel), one S-video input (plus the one on the side), two component video inputs, an HDMI input, a fixed/variable audio output, an optical digital audio output and a side headphone jack.

The remote control is not a universal model, but it is therefore much simpler to manage, with a reasonable number of buttons to direct the functions of the TV. All in all, the KDL-32S2000 is a competent LCD HDTV for those who desire flat-panel HD technology but do not have the room (or the budget) for one of the truly large-screen models.
