Sony KD-34XBR970 34-inch WEGA HDTV
Date Published: 10/26/07
Sony's KD-34XBR970 brings together high-definition performance and an extensive feature list in a 34-inch widescreen WEGA HDTV. Surrounded by an attractive silver and gray cabinet, the flat picture tube delivers accurate, glare-free images. A front-panel door hides control buttons and composite video and S-video inputs for use with a camcorder or video game system.
The built-in NTSC, ATSC, and QAM tuners process standard, high-definition and digital cable signals without the need for additional receivers (although you should check with your cable provider for QAM compatibility). The picture benefits from the progressive scan up-conversion of non-HD content, which results in a detailed and sharp picture, with crisp edges and lifelike color. Movies are adapted for video presentation using reverse 3:2 pulldown conversion for smoother action.
The stereo system consists of a pair of two-way speakers supplying 10 watts of audio output per channel, and the KD-34XBR970 offers automatic volume leveling and simulated surround sound. By placing the speakers on each side of the screen, the KD-34XBR970 delivers a wide stereo image. Sixteen favorite channels can be entered into memory for quick flipping, and you can preview those channels with the push of a button on the remote. Other convenience features include a two-event timer, input and channel labeling and parental V-chip controls.
In addition to the front-panel inputs, the KD-34XBR970 offers an RF input, two composite video inputs, two S-video inputs, two component video inputs, an HDMI input, an optical digital audio output and a fixed/variable audio output. The large universal remote control has glow buttons that are useful at night, and the layout does a good job keeping various functions organized.
