Sony ICF-M88B personal bicycle radio

Date Published: 1/7/08

The Sony ICF-M88B is one of our favorite radios, perhaps because we were able to participate in one of our favorite pastimes while reviewing it. The ICF-M88B is Sony's AM/FM bicycle radio and cycle computer. It is illegal in most states to wear headphones while riding a bicycle, so Sony made it simple to bring the tunes along for the ride.

The ICF-M88B is a water-resistant radio with a built-in speaker designed to resist rain and roadway splashing. The radio has a 15-station preset memory, and an easy-to-operate jog lever is very handy while you're hammering in the midst of the peloton. The unit comes with a handlebar mounting kit.

Most exciting are the cycling computer functions included in the ICF-M88B. Once the speed sensor is mounted and the wheel size entered, the ICF-M88B will display current speed, distance, average speed, maximum speed, and a total ride odometer. The LCD is backlit to make it easy to glance down and quickly read biking statistics. The ICF-M88B is just about the only legal way to bring tunes into the bike lane.
