The DVP-NS55P/S features Sony's Precision Cinema progressive scan playback for optimal picture quality when connected to a digital TV via the component video output. Images appear sharp, with clean lines and little video noise or pixel distortion. The unit also is equipped with composite and S-video outputs for connecting to an analog TV.

This DVD player is compatible with a wide variety of DVD and CD formats. The DVP-NS55P/S can handle DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, and Sony's excellent Precision Drive 3 anti-skip system is able read discs that are warped, scratched, or otherwise damaged.
