The Sony DVP-NC80V/B is a five-disc DVD changer that, in addition to black, is also available in silver as model number DVP-NC80V/S. Anyone with a digital or HD-ready TV can enjoy the excellent picture quality from Sony's Precision Cinema progressive scan technology with full reverse 3:2 conversion. The images displayed are more lifelike, with subtle skin tones and bright, accurate colors, even in heavily shaded areas of the picture. The changer also offers plenty of connectivity options for analog TV users.

The DVP-NC80V/B has excellent disc compatibility. In addition to standard movie DVD, the unit handles home-recorded DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. It also plays a variety of audio formats such as CD and CD-R/RW, including those loaded with MP3 files. Audiophiles will appreciate the compatibility with SACD, although like other Sony decks, this unit is not compatible with DVD-Audio. While most players struggle to read scratched or damaged discs, the DVP-NC80V/B features Sony's Precision Drive 3 system that is able to read and eliminate playback errors in a variety of warped, scratched, or otherwise damaged discs.

The DVP-NC80V/B features integrated Dolby Digital and DTS decoders, and the audio can be routed via optical and coaxial digital audio outputs to a full-feature home theater receiver. Alternatively, the player can simulate multichannel sound over a two-speaker system with its virtual surround function. The DVP-NC80V/B also offers enough playback options and picture-quality settings to make every movie-watching or music-listening experience different and rewarding.
