Sony DVP-FX1021 portable DVD player
Date Published: 1/9/08
The DVP-FX1021 is Sony's premium portable DVD player. While it doesn't have quite as large a screen as the Samsung DVD-L1200, the DVP-FX1021's 10-1/5-inch TFT LCD display is still impressive in both size and quality. What really sets this model apart, however, is the unit's battery life. When listening through headphones (as opposed to the unit's built-in speakers) and with the contrast set at a minimum, the DVP-FX1021's lithium-ion battery can be expected to provide an incredible 7 hours of continuous viewing time. That is enough power to enjoy two to four feature-length movies without replacing or recharging the battery. This portable can keep users occupied on everything but very long international flights or cross-country road trips.
The DVP-FX1021 is a stylish device, finished in silver with an aluminum top panel, giving it an appearance that most closely resembles a slender notebook computer. The player offers compatibility with a variety of DVD formats including standard DVD-Video, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-R/RW. It also doubles as a CD player and a digital picture viewer capable of handling CD-R/RW loaded with MP3 and JPEG files.
The unit doesn't offer progressive scan output, but it can be hooked up to a TV using its mini-jack S-video and composite video outputs. It can also route Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound signals to an A/V receiver via the coaxial digital audio output. The player also comes with a car charger and a power adapter. This is a high-quality portable DVD player.
