Sony DAV-FX80 home theater system
Date Published: 5/12/08
The Sony DAV-FX80 stands on the fine line between pricey high-end home theater systems and scaled-down budget packages, and it offers the best of both worlds. Pumping out an impressive 1,000 total watts, the DAV-FX80 can handle multiple disc formats and provide progressive scan DVD output, all without breaking the bank.
The main unit houses a slot-loading five-disc DVD/CD/SACD player that can also play discs encoded with MP3 and JPEG files. The DAV-FX80 is HDMI-compliant, with a single high-resolution digital-to-digital audio and video HDMI connection. There are two composite video inputs for a VCR or cable/DSS, as well as a pair of analog audio inputs and optical and coaxial digital audio inputs.
The DAV-FX80 has built-in decoding for Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II. It also has an A/V sync feature that adjusts for delays between audio and video processing. The two-way floor-standing main front speakers come with height-adjustable floor stands, although the stands can be detached for shelf placement or wall mounting. The subwoofer uses Sony's Digital Direct Twin Drive system for a tight and solid sound.
The Sony DAV-FX80 is a substantial home theater system that looks and sounds impressive. Only your wallet will know it didn't cost a fortune.
