It has rollers and it vents to a nearby window so the MAC-8000 can be moved from room to room as needed. It's a good choice for consumers who cannot or prefer not to lift a room air conditioner from a window every season. At 67 pounds, don't try carrying it upstairs without help.

The air conditioner offers up to 8,000 Btu/hr in cooling. Its Energy Efficiency Rating is just 9.4, which is not enough to earn the Energy Star compliant designation. This means the unit uses more electricity and is more expensive to operate than similar models that have earned the Energy Star rating.

The unit's dehumidifier can pull up to 7.6 pints (nearly a gallon) of water before the removable bucket needs to be emptied. It's rated to pull out up to 75 pints (nearly 10 gallons) of water a day, so plan on emptying the bucket frequently during humid summer days. It has a two-speed fan; however, many other models in this price range offer three speeds.

As with most room air conditioners, the Soleus air MAC-8000 has a wireless remote control for easy operation anywhere in the room. The buttons control power (on/off), mode (cooling, dehumidifying, fan), two fan speeds and fan swing (oscillation). The unit is relatively quiet and can be used in a bedroom. However, the small dehumidifier tank will require frequent emptying, so the unit cannot be left unattended for long periods of time on particularly humid days.
