Soleus Air LX-100 air conditioner
Date Published: 6/27/07
The Soleus Air LX-100 is a portable room air conditioner designed to cool standard rooms up to about 400 square feet in size. It's more expensive than other models of the same size, but it also does more -- and it has two motors.
First, the LX-100 is an air conditioner. To make it more efficient, some of the moisture pulled from the air is used to cool the unit. We think that's a smart idea. Second, it also works as a tankless dehumidifier that exhausts excess water out through a drain port. The dehumidifier can pull up to 50 pints of water from the air every day, yet doesn't have to be emptied. Third, it also functions as a 1,200-watt heater to make the unit a year-round climate controller. Finally, it's an air-filtration system with an easy-to-remove-and-clean filter.
On the down side, the LX-100 weighs 80 pounds. Since it's a portable air conditioner, it requires two exhaust vent hoses to be run to a nearby window. The dehumidifier drain, too, must be ported to the exterior. This model is intended more for cooling medium to large rooms and making them comfortable without the need to install the unit in a window.
The Soleus Air LX-100 is well built and relatively quiet, though it is on the higher end of the price range for portable air conditioners. But keep in mind that it does more than many other models. It may be the right model for you if you like to have an air conditioner, dehumidifier, heater and air filtration system all in one unit.
