If your baby has grown too big to hold in a front carrier, but is still too little to walk for more than a short distance, a backpack carrier may be the answer. The Snugli Cross Terrain Internal Frame Carrier offers a sporty, comfortable alternative for both parent and child. Designed to hold infants from six months of age up to 40 pounds, it adds a measure of convenience and safety for parents who want to keep a child close. Unlike some backpack carriers we've tried, this one really does distribute a child's weight comfortably. We found we could complete considerable hikes without aching shoulders or strained backs. We credit the Snugli Cross Terrain Internal Frame Carrier's adjustable sternum strap for much of this added comfort because it takes weight off of a parent's shoulders. In addition, the carrier's padded shoulder straps with mesh lining provide a softer point of contact. A built-in kickstand makes it possible to load a child without help: Simply activate the kickstand, which stabilizes the carrier, place the child inside the carrier's five-point safety harness and then pull the carrier on as one would a backpack. A large canopy provides shade and shelter for the child, and we appreciated other extras, such as the carrier's reflective trim for evening use and a removable insulated bottle pack that provides an upright storage space for a baby's bottle.
