Snapper LT2250 lawn tractor
Date Published: 4/7/08
The Snapper LT2250 lawn tractor is the largest and most powerful tractor in the company's critically-acclaimed LT200 line. By combining a smooth running machine with a large 50-inch cutting deck, Snapper has made a powerful lawn tractor that is an excellent option for medium- and large-yard duties.
The 22-hp Briggs & Stratton Intek overhead valve engine is a strong performer that climbs with ease. Additionally, this beefy engine runs quietly thanks to a solid muffler. The LT2250 also features Snapper's Quick-Hitch removal system, which make switching out the cutting deck very easy. When attached, this 50-inch deck is easy to raise and lower via a hand lever and offers variable height adjustments from 1.5 to 4 inches in seven different positions. As with other Snapper models, the deck is very stable on all terrain, including rugged patches of overgrown lawn. One difference between this tractor and other smaller Snappers, however, is the way grass is discharged using the standard side discharge system; at the lower height settings, grass clippings can get caught in the draft and come out in clumps or inconstant bunches. This is fairly common with larger mower cutting decks and we find that the easiest way to alleviate this is to slightly raise the deck. If these minor discharge issues concern you, it's worth noting that Snapper's optional bagging and mulching systems are wonderful.
The handling and suspension on the LT2250 are exceptional. Tight, clean 14-inch-radius turns can be made with the cutting deck still blazing, which is great when making finesse cuts around shrubs, trees or other obstacles. Rarely does this tractor produce an uneven cut or miss stalks of growth, even in rugged terrain. The ride is smooth and the seat is comfortable. The LT2250 features easy-to-understand and operate controls; those new to the world of lawn tractors will appreciate how simple it is to steer and control this tractor. The transmission is smooth and gracefully engages without hitching. The excellent selection of optional attachments, including winter-ready snow blades and a snow thrower, add to the year-round versatility of the LT2250.
This LT2250 may be too much tractor for smaller yards, but because it performs so well in every aspect, those with less land to maintain can be forgiven for picking such a powerful machine. This machine makes rough-and-tumble yards a breeze and, outside of the slight discharge issue, is an excellent performer.
Pros: Great handling, easy-to-use controls, tight turning radius, excellent bagging options, very smooth ride, even cut
Cons: Expensive, inconsistent side discharge
