While the Snapper GT2554's high price may be the first thing that jumps out at you, a close look at its innovative features reveals the fact that this machine shouldn't be discounted based on its cost alone; it offers a ton of power and -- perhaps most importantly -- is very easy to operate and augment.

A powerful 25-hp Kohler Command V-Twin engine powers the GT2554. The zippy 7.2-mph maximum forward speed can be exhilarating, and this tractor can even maintain high speeds when its large 54-inch cutting deck is engaged. Hills are no problem and the 18-inch turning radius makes it simple to make precision cuts. A 4-gallon fuel tank handles more than enough fuel for most residential yards and offers plenty of mowing time for larger farms and ranches.

As with all of Snapper's tractors, the GT2554 is exceptionally easy to use. This is especially important when one considers how many optional attachments the GT2554 can handle; this is one of the few available garden tractors that can handle heavy-duty jobs with ease.

Using the tractor as a conventional mower is easy enough; the electronically-engaged hydrostatic transmission is extremely smooth and does not experience any hitching or bucking when slowing down to make precision cuts. The elegant suspension is great for cutting jobs on rugged terrain. As expected, side discharge from the cutting deck is a little sporadic when dealing with uneven and overgrown patches, but cuts are always clean and consistent. Cutting height is adjustable from 1.25 to 4 inches, and the cutting deck remains stable at all settings. Snapper's Automatic Controlled Traction really kicks in when navigating bumpy terrain, working much like all-wheel drive in automobiles.

Snapper's attachments are a little pricey, but they function well. The standard grass catcher and mulching kit attachments work well, but the GT2554 really shines when put to the test in winter conditions. The snow thrower and snow blade attachments make short work of heavy snow accumulations, especially if you use the available chains and wheel weights.

Though it's an expensive machine, the GT2554 offers unparalleled ease of use and performance. The GT2554 blazes through standard lawn maintenance chores and offers reliable, comfortable operation to those with more rugged needs. The only real complaint we have is this model's lack of compatibility with the full line of Snapper's ground-engaging attachments, but if you're looking for a powerful, highly functional garden tractor, the Snapper GT2554 Garden Tractor is just about as good as it gets.
