Snapper 422023BVE riding mower

The Snapper 422023BVE riding mower is a powerful wide-cut machine for lawns up to 2 acres in size.
Most of the Snapper rear-engine rider mowers offer cutting widths of 28 to 33 inches with a single blade. The 422023BVE is different: It cuts a swath of 42 inches with two blades to get the job done faster. Yet the mower's frame dimensions aren't any larger than other models, just the deck is bigger.
The 422023BVE is powered by a Briggs & Stratton 20-hp V-Twin (two cylinder) overhead valve (OHV) two-stroke engine. The transmission is a heavier-duty version of Snapper's 5-speed clutchless transmission, which is more than adequate.
But more about the engine: The ELS V-Twin is right in the middle of the B&S engine line, offering some of the features of the better engines without the extra cost. For example, the engine features full-pressure lubrication for longer life, spin-on oil filter and a fuel filter that is relatively easy to service, as well as a good-quality air filter. Add their anti-vibration system and you get a pretty good two-stroke engine that will last longer than most. We think that's value.
This model can discharge grass to the side, through a chute to a rear bagger (optional), or mulch (optional) the grass to decompose as fertilizer. However, it works optimally as a "side-discharge" model. If you prefer to bag, one of Snapper's Hi-Vac models may be a better choice. Of course, you'll be giving up the wider 42-inch cut, which is available only on the 422023BVE in the Snapper line.
As with other Snapper riding mowers, the turn radius isn't as impressive. It's 28 inches. Compare that to a lawn tractor's turn of 18 inches, other riders of 12 inches -- one of just 4 inches -- and a zero-turn riders' turn radius of, well, zero. If you're not trying to spin your mower and you like its other features, the 422023BVE is a substantial machine worthy of consideration.
Overall, the Snapper 422023BVE is a good choice for larger yards without lots of turns, especially where you plan to leave or rake up the grass rather than bag or mulch it.
Pros: Easy operation, good power, well-built, wide cut, better for side-discharge
Cons: Turning radius is very wide, not as readily available as some other brands
