All products on your list are placed (and later printed) into sensible categories, such as dairy, meat, frozen foods, snacks and pet care. This saves time while shopping, as you don't have to scan through a long list to find, for example, all the fruits and vegetables. You can earmark particular items for which you have coupons, and you can indicate (and continuously update) product quantities. There is even a handy errand tracker, so you can remind yourself to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy or stop at the post office on the way home.

The SmartShopper's internal database can be customized to reflect your favorite items and brands. This is done either by voice recognition or by using the arrow buttons to spell an item name. The voice-recognition method is easier, as manually entering product names can be quite tedious.

The SmartShopper is a stylish, modern-looking gadget, with a brushed aluminum front and a large, easy-to-read LCD screen. A strong magnet built into the back of the unit allows you to stick it to your fridge, or the included kit lets you mount it on the wall. The SmartShopper comes with a quick-start guide, an item booklet, three rolls of thermal printer paper and the wall-mounting kit. Four AA batteries are required but not included.
