Smartparts SPDPF70E Digital Picture Frame
Date Published: 10/24/07
The Smartparts SPDPF70E is an extremely basic digital picture frame that will appeal to bargain shoppers. The SPDPF70E won't meet the needs of more demanding consumers, but if you've got a tight budget, you can't go wrong with the $89 suggested price tag.
Unfortunately, the SPDPF70E's image quality is only average at best, but that isn't too surprising considering this model's price point. In addition, the 7-inch screen (measured diagonally) is among the smallest digital picture frames available, which makes the image-quality issues more problematic. On the other hand, the SPDPF70E's contrast ratio and overall brightness are good, especially for a budget-priced frame.
The SPDPF70E's playback options are extremely limited. For example, in a slideshow, you cannot adjust the amount of time each image is shown on the screen. In addition, you may have problems displaying photos that you've altered with your computer. A third-party software package called OptiPix may be required to make altered images work, which limits the SPDPF70E's ease-of-use factor.
The SPDPF70E is compatible with four memory card formats, which is handy, but the extra features stop there. You won't find a remote control, battery capabilities or internal memory with the SPDPF70E. Smartparts does include an AC adapter, but that's about it.
The SPDPDF70E is a good option if you're short on funds and don't mind forgoing high-end features. If the image quality was a little better, it'd make this digital picture frame far more appealing. Still, the Smartparts SPDPF70E's overall performance is adequate when you consider the price.
Pros: Good performance considering the low price, good contrast and brightness
Cons: No extra features, potential problems displaying altered pictures, small display area, image quality could be better
