Skil 7-1/4-Inch Skilsaw with 2 Beam Laser Guide 5755-01
Date Published: 1/31/08
Skil's feature-laden model 5755-01 Skilsaw circular saw cuts to the chase with a powerful motor and innovative two-beam laser system that takes the guesswork out of cutting, all at a great price. Whether turning a corner or cutting on the straight and narrow, the two laser beams blaze a precise trail so you can zero-in on where to cut. The 5755-01's 2.5-horsepower, 13-amp motor propels the blade up to 4,600 revolutions per minute, delivering plenty of power for cross-cutting and ripping of all wood varieties.
In addition to the cool cutting mechanisms, the 5755-01 comes with other professional-grade features. For starters, the anti-snag lower guard reduces the likelihood of wood hang-ups when making narrow cuts. The 7-1/4 inch, 18-tooth carbide blade can handle most cutting projects, and the spindle lock secures the spindle for easy blade changes. An added bonus is the on-board wrench storage area for changing the blade. We also like the accessibility of the rear-view depth-adjustment lever, which is easy to read and operate. Soft rubber grips ensure ergonomic comfort, and the auxiliary handle offers added control.
However, the 5755-01 is not without flaws. For example, when working in bright light or outdoors on a sunny day, the laser beams are barely visible. The high-pitched saw noise is a bit annoying. In addition, the case is poorly designed, and it proves to be a challenge to position the saw so that the case closes properly.
Despite these few failings, the Skil 5755-01 Skilsaw is a powerful, easy-to-use, well-featured and affordable circular saw for novices and experts alike.
Pros: Powerful motor, two-beam laser system for accurate cuts, spindle lock for easy blade changes, effective anti-snag lower guard, easily accessible rear-view depth adjustment
Cons: Laser guides are hard to see in bright light, saw noise can get on your nerves, poorly designed case
