Date Published: 11/8/07
Skil's new 3/8-inch 2510-02 Drill/Driver packs a number of innovative features, all at a good price. What immediately impresses is the 2510-02's 14.4-volt lithium-ion battery system, which provides 30-percent more power while being 40-percent smaller and 25-percent lighter than Skil's NiCad batteries. The battery retains its charge for up to 18 months of non-use, or four times longer than NiCad, so it's ready for action whenever you need it. The 2510-02's battery is also removable, so you can charge it on or off the tool.
The ergonomics and handling of the 2510-02 are among the best we've tested. This well-balanced tool has a comfortable soft-grip handle, and at only 2.5 pounds, working on overhead and other hard-to-reach projects is no problem. Perfect for assembling cabinets, installing shelving, building small decks and more, the motor features variable-speed control (0 to 800 revolutions per minute) that adjusts at the touch of the trigger. An all-metal geartrain maximizes driving force, and an adjustable 16-position clutch is equipped with a soft-grip ring that turns easily.
Other features include a 3/8-inch keyless chuck for fast bit changes, forward/reverse indicators, a battery-level gauge with three LED lights that indicate the charge condition of the battery during operation and a built-in worklight. The 2510-02 comes with one 14.4-volt lithium-ion battery, Skil's Smartcharge Cradle Charger and a four-piece accessory bit set.
For a well-balanced and lightweight tool for DIYers of all experience levels, Skil's affordable 2510-02 14.4-Volt Lithium Ion Drill/Driver has the power, performance and precision to get the job done.
