Sirius Starmate Replay ST2 Satellite Radio Tuner

Date Published: 1/8/08

The Sirius Starmate Replay ST2 is a small and affordable plug-and-play satellite radio tuner, and it comes with all the accessories you'll need to get it up and running in your car. A kit for installing it in your home is also available from Sirius ($40). Of course, you'll need to activate a subscription to be able to listen to Sirius' 125-plus channels, including 56 commercial-free music channels.

While smaller than a majority of plug-and-play units, the Starmate Replay ST2 has an extra-wide, five-line display that makes it easier to read longer song and artist titles. With its built-in FM transmitter, the Starmate Replay ST2 will connect wirelessly with any in-dash FM radio. The small chassis is easy to place in your car, and Sirius includes a docking cradle and windshield suction-cup mount for the installation. One consequence of the small size is small buttons, which can be difficult to find, especially while you are driving.

The Starmate Replay ST2's Replay function will certainly be familiar to digital video recorder (DVR) users. A memory buffer stores up to the last 44 minutes of programming content (depending on how long you've been listening to that channel), and you can pause and even rewind to hear something you missed. If you pause on a music channel, you can skip forward and back by song title.

Sports fans will love the Starmate Replay ST2's GameAlert and GameZone functions. GameAlert lets you know when your favorite team is about to kick off, and it will also provide scoring updates. GameZone will show you the scores of all your favorites on the display. The Starmate Replay ST2 has a Jump button for rapidly skipping back and forth between two channels, and the Sirius-Seek function alerts you when any of up to 30 artists (determined by you) is playing on any channel.

In addition to the cradle and mount, the package includes a basic remote control, a magnetic antenna and a vehicle power adapter. With its FM transmitter and compact design, the Sirius Starmate Replay ST2 is a great way to put satellite radio in your car.

Pros:  Replay features, compact size, integrated FM transmitter
Cons:  Small buttons might be hard to use while driving, FM transmitter is the only audio output option
